SCENE EXAMINATION, SURVEYING AND PLAN DRAWING

Generally a visit to the scene and the completion of a full survey for plan preparation is when requested. An instruction may be some time after the event however valuable detail can be obtained through a thorough examination of the site or scene. Lines of sight can be established, along with relevant current, sea bed and tidal pattern information.

EQUIPMENT EXAMINATIONS

Experience in the handling and detailing of equipment and their defects will provide a significant contribution particularly if they could have influenced behaviour at the time of an incident. The relative use and performance characteristics can be assessed and detailed allowing a clear understanding of contributing factors.

DIVING COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Computer records from most diving computers can help establish what a diver was doing at the time of the incident. Years of experience analysing dive computer logs and print outs provides additional evidence  and corroboration.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION AND RECONSTRUCTION

Accident investigation and reconstruction is the art of analysing physical and witness evidence available from an accident to establish the most likely sequence of events. Reconstruction allows a reliable account of what happened using the highest possible degree of accuracy that the available evidence will allow. Analysis of contributory factors and causation for each unique accident investigation will be provided.

INTERVIEWING WITNESSES AND TAKING STATEMENTS

The detail that many statements have is sometimes insufficient and important corroborating detail is often left out. It is essential to avoid inaccuracies based more on general opinion than fact. Statements can be taken that precisely gathering the relevant details allowing a full understanding of the event sequence

GOOD QUALITY PHOTOGRAPHS

These are generally taken as a matter of course which compliment a scale plan and in support of all conclusions. Well prepared photographs can make a significant contribution to a lay persons interpretation.

DETAILED REPORTS PREPARED

At the conclusion of an investigation a clear and concise report will be prepared setting out the stages of the enquiry, the evidence analysis and conclusions drawn. Reports are worded so that any person irrespective of technical knowledge will be able to follow the report.

EXPERT TESTIMONY

Where cases come to trial it is vital that the accident investigator is able to put across his findings in court in a clear, concise and confident manner. Expert testimony will be impartial and objective.
